The Faculty (1998) — Film Summary
The Faculty, directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Kevin Williamson, is a stylish blend of science fiction, horror, and high school drama. Set in the small town of Herrington, Ohio, the film follows a group of high school students who begin to suspect that their teachers are not what they seem.
When strange and unsettling behavior starts to emerge among the faculty, the students — including the rebellious Zeke (Josh Hartnett), shy Casey (Elijah Wood), cheerleader Delilah (Jordana Brewster), and outcast Stokely (Clea DuVall) — come together to uncover the disturbing truth. They soon discover that a mysterious parasitic alien species has taken over the school staff, using them as hosts in a silent invasion.
As the alien infection begins to spread, the students must overcome their differences and work together to stop the extraterrestrial threat before it takes over the entire town. With their backs against the wall, they race against time to find the source of the invasion and destroy it.
The Faculty skillfully combines suspense, dark humor, and teenage angst, offering a clever twist on classic alien invasion narratives. Featuring a talented ensemble cast and Rodriguez’s signature dynamic direction, the film delivers both thrills and a sharp commentary on conformity, authority, and the pressures of adolescence.
